Ameshia Cooper Chester is a proud Durham native and graduate of Durham Public Schools. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from UNC-Greensboro and her Juris Doctor from Charlotte School of Law, where she discovered her passion for justice and litigation.
She currently serves as a Special Deputy Attorney General with the North Carolina Department of Justice, prosecuting tax law violations and representing the State in criminal appellate matters, and has previously advised state law enforcement certification agencies and the ABC Commission.
Before joining the Attorney General’s Office, Ameshia served Durham County as a Felony Prosecutor, guiding victims through the justice system with compassion while protecting the rights of the accused. She is active in mentoring law students, a lifelong member of Union Baptist Church, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She lives with her husband Darren, an Assistant Public Defender, their young son Keithen James “KJ”, and their energetic terrier, Barrister.
